NCDOT to Temporarily Close a Section of Purefoy Road in Chapel Hill Next Week

RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close the intersection of Purefoy Road and N.C. 86/South Columbia Street in Orange County next week as work progresses on the N.C 86/South Columbia Street enhancement project.The intersection will be closed from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day, beginning Monday, June 17, weather permitting, to allow crews to install curb and gutter and perform paving operations. The work is expected to be complete on Friday, June 21.During the closure, motorists will be able to access Purefoy Road from Mason Farm Road. The work is part of the $4.6 million project to widen and enhance N.C 86/South Columbia Street from Purefoy Road to Manning Drive. The project involves the construction of a center turn lane, bus pullouts, sidewalks and bike lanes, improving safety and the flow of traffic in the area.
