New alignment is part of $125.2 million I-85 widening project in Concord
CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close Pitts School Road at Poplar Tent Road in Concord at midnight Tuesday, Aug. 20, weather permitting. The closure is part of the $125.2 million project to convert a 6.8-mile segment of I-85 from four to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard (Exit 49) to north of N.C. 73 (Exit 55).
Contractor Lane Construction will close the intersection to complete its new realignment and expects to reopen the road to traffic by Wednesday, Aug. 28. With favorable weather, work could be completed before Monday, Aug. 26, the first day of school in Cabarrus County.
During the closure, motorists will be detoured from Poplar Tent Road to George Liles Parkway to Weddington Road back to Pitts School Road.
