NCDOT will close Caldwell Road in Cabarrus County next week as part of mainline grade separation project

CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will close Caldwell Road in Harrisburg at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, weather permitting, as part of a $4.9 million project to build a new bridge taking Caldwell Road over Norfolk Southern Railroad.

This project is part of the Piedmont Improvement Program, a series of rail projects that will improve safety and mobility on the corridor between Raleigh and Charlotte. PIP projects are primarily funded by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and will be completed by Sept. 30, 2017.

While contractor Blythe Construction is building the bridge, motorists will follow a signed detour from Caldwell Road to N.C. 49 to Back Creek Church Road back to Caldwell Road. The bridge is scheduled to be completed in November 2014.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
