Closure will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the left lane on I-85 South near George Liles Parkway (Exit 54) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, weather permitting.
During the closure, crews will mill and resurface the pavement from north of the Coddle Creek bridge to the entrance ramp from George Liles Parkway. The work needs to be done during daylight hours so temperatures will be warm enough to apply the asphalt mix needed for the repairs.
The work is part of the $125.2 million project to widen 6.8 miles of I-85 from four to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard to north of N.C. 73. The project will also feature diverging diamond interchanges at Poplar Tent Road and N.C. 73. The project is scheduled for completion in November 2013.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
