NCDOT will temporarily close lanes on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte beginning Friday night

CHARLOTTE - Travelers on Independence Boulevard (U.S. 74) in Charlotte this weekend should be on the lookout for lane closures in both directions between Eastway Drive and Briar Creek Road as the result of resurfacing work.

U.S. 74 westbound/Independence Boulevard inbound lanes will have intermittent lane closures starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 15. Work will continue around the clock until the resurfacing is done, or at 6 a.m. on Monday, March 18, when all lanes will be open for morning rush hour traffic.

The same situation will be in place for the eastbound U.S. 74/outbound Independence Boulevard lanes, starting at 10 p.m. on Friday.

Motorists may avoid delays by using Monroe Road or Central Avenue as an alternate route.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
