Neville Road in Orange County to Close for Bridge Replacement Project

RALEIGH - Weather permitting, crews will begin replacing the Neville Road bridge over Phil's Creek near Chapel Hill at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28. The work will require the closure of Neville Road near N.C. 54 until Tuesday, Dec. 17, when the project is scheduled to be complete.

The N.C. Department of Transportation will set up the following detour route to guide motorists around the work zone:Neville Road to N.C. 54 to Hatch Road to Old Greensboro Road back to Neville Road.NCDOT encourages motorists to pay attention to construction-related signs and allow plenty of time to reach their destinations safely.

This project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. Investments in our transportation infrastructure provide better access and support economic growth across the state.

The existing bridge was built in 1957 and is considered structurally deficient. That does not mean the bridge is unsafe. It means the bridge was not built to current design standards and needs to be replaced. The new bridge will be wider and more modern, which will improve driver safety and help traffic flow more efficiently through the area.
