RALEIGH - The outside connector lane of I-440 West (Exit 1) between I-40 and Buck Jones Road is expected to remain closed until about noon today as crews repair patch work that took place overnight.
The road was re-opened this morning as scheduled, but when it became apparent the patched roadway was not handling vehicle traffic as intended, the lane was closed again for the safety of motorists along this stretch of I-440 to allow crews to fix the problem.
The inner collector lane remains open, as do the regular I-440 West lanes. However, delays are expected through the rest of the morning for motorists on I-40 West trying to go south on I-440/U.S. 1/64. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area.
The patching is a preliminary part of the I-40/440 rehab project, with the intent of keeping the roadway in a safe travelling condition until major construction work begins on I-40 in 2014.
