RALEIGH - Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close Park Road near Thornton Road in Rockingham County beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 11 to replace the bridge over Big Beaver Island Creek. Construction of the new bridge is expected to be complete by July 12.Motorists will use the following signed detour route:
  • Park Road to Beaver Creek Road to Ayersville Road to N.C. 770 back to Park Road.
This project is part of the NCDOT's $450 million state-funded bridge plan for 2011-13, which calls for preservation, repairs or replacement of bridges statewide. NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, watch signs for construction information and obey the posted speed limit. For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit or follow NCDOT on Twitter.
