CHARLOTTE -Several Norfolk Southern Railroad crossings in Charlotte will close intermittently beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 2, weather permitting. A subcontractor for the railroad will be replacing crossties at three crossings. The repairs are expected to continue through Friday, May 3.
Crossings at Sugar Creek Road, 36th Street, and Craighead Road will be closed for several hours, and will require detours for motorists. Depending on how long repairs may take, crews could work on one or more crossings in one day.
Motorists should use the following detours:
Sugar Creek Road Detour: U.S. 29 (North Tryon Street) to Eastway Drive to The Plaza back to Sugar Creek Road;
36th Street Detour: U.S. 29 to Matheson Avenue to Jordan Place to Davidson Street back to 36th Street;
Craighead Road Detour: Davidson Street to Sugar Creek Road to The Plaza to Eastway Drive to U.S. 29 back to Craighead Road.
