Rierson Road in Stokes County to Close for Bridge Replacement Project

Road scheduled to reopen in late August
RALEIGH Crews will begin construction next week on a new bridge that will carry Rierson Road over Crooked Run Creek near King. The project will require the N.C. Department of Transportation to close Rierson Road on Monday, March 25, at 8 a.m. It is scheduled to reopen on Aug. 26 when the new bridge is complete.Crews will set up the following signed detour route to help motorists avoid the work zone: Take Rierson Road to Meadowbrook Drive to Trinity Church Road back to Rierson Road.NCDOT encourages motorists to go slow, pay attention to construction-related signs and allow plenty of time to reach their destinations safely. The existing bridge was built in 1962 and has a sufficiency rating of 24 out of 100. That does not mean the bridge is unsafe. It means it was not built to current design standards and needs to be replaced. The new bridge will be wider and more modern, which will improve safety and help traffic flow more efficiently through the area. For real-time travel information any time, call 511, visit or follow NCDOT on Twitter at Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website.
