Traffic entering I-40 East will
be detoured to Exit 150
RALEIGH -The right lane of Interstate 40 East approaching Exit 151 (U.S. 21/East Statesville/Harmony) will be closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9 as part of the Interstate 40/77 interchange improvement project in Statesville.Crews will be placing girders on two structures over Fourth Creek near the I-40 on-ramp from U.S. 21. Traffic heading onto I-40 East from U.S. 21 will be detoured onto I-40 West to Exit 150 to get back onto the interstate.Upcoming Work
- Homeowners should have their fences removed out of the new project right of way in four weeks.
- The Radio Road bridge area in Statesville also will be closed in the next few weeks, weather permitting, as the old bridge will be torn down and replaced with a new bridge in the same location. During the bridge construction, traffic will be detoured to N.C. 115 by way of Hartness Road and Museum Road to access I-40. This detour will be in place for 245 days once Radio Road is closed. The intersection of Radio Road, Gaither Road and Museum Road will become a three-way stop during the bridge replacement.
- Crews are clearing trees along I-40 East from Radio Road to Lakewood Drive to construct a sound wall along I-40 East behind Carolina Avenue. That work is scheduled to being early this summer and last for about six months.
