Road Closure for County Line Road Bridge Replacement Project Near New Bern Starts Tuesday, Sept. 3

RALEIGH - Work is scheduled to start Tuesday, Sept. 3 on the replacement of a 59-year-old bridge on County Line Road south of New Bern in Craven County. The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $797,019 contract to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson for the project.

The bridge is considered functionally obsolete, which means it was built to design standards no longer used in such areas as lane width. The new bridge is expected to be open by Dec. 1, and will be wider and more modern, which will improve driver safety and help traffic flow more efficiently through the area.

The project means motorists will be shifted to a signed detour route, using Old Airport Road, Landscape Drive, Waterscape Way and Wilcox Road.

This project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges to provide better access and support economic growth across the state.
