RALEIGH - Following the tornado that struck Morehead City, Atlantic Beach and Pine Knoll Shores last Tuesday evening, debris is piling up on several Carteret County Roads.
Although the storm did cause damage, it was not enough to be declared a state or federal disaster and North Carolina will not be considered for state or federal assistance. Therefore, the N.C. Department of Transportation will not be removing debris associated with this storm from the right of way.
Residents are advised to check with their homeowners insurance company. Often debris cleanup is covered by insurance and arrangements for its collection will be handled through the insurance company.
