New pattern is part of I-485 Outer Loop completion project
CHARLOTTE -Motorists will see changes this week as progress continues on the completion of the final 5.7-mile segment of the Charlotte Outer Loop in northeast Mecklenburg County. The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to shift traffic to a new alignment of Mallard Creek Road at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, weather permitting.
Several traffic patterns will change as a result of this shift, including the following:
- Traveling on Mallard Creek Road toward Breezewood Drive, traffic will be shifted to the left of the existing roadway, continuing over a new bridge. This bridge will maintain one lane in each direction while construction continues;
- Traveling from I-85, Mallard Creek Road will be shifted slightly right of the existing roadway, connecting with Odell School Road. The existing signal at this intersection will also be removed; and
- Access out of the Mallard Woods development will be restricted to left turns. Motorists can get to Mallard Creek Road via Breezewood Drive.
The project is on pace to be completed in December 2014.
