Traffic Shift on I-85/I-485 Turbine Project in Mecklenburg County Scheduled for Tonight

Motorists can access new exit ramp from I-485 Outer Loop to I-85 South

CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will open another ramp on the $92.2 million reconstruction of the I-85/I-485 interchange in north Charlotte. Weather permitting, traffic will be shifted to the new exit ramp from the I-485 Outer Loop to I-85 South (Exit 31) starting at 9 p.m.

This is the third ramp contractor Lane Construction will open over the next few weeks as part of converting the existing interchange to a turbine design, the first of its kind in North Carolina. The turbine circles all left-turning traffic around a central bridge in a counterclockwise direction.

The traffic switch should be completed by 6 a.m. Tuesday, August 6. The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2014.
