On Saturday, May 4 at 8 a.m., N.C. Department of Transportation
crews will shift U.S. 70 eastbound traffic in Kinston, which is currently in a one-lane pattern from just east of Innovation Drive to Pruitt Road, onto one lane of the new U.S. 70, weather permitting. Traffic on U.S. 70 East will remain in a one-lane pattern on the new U.S. 70 in this same location for approximately two weeks. Motorists needing to access and leave local businesses in this area should follow the industrial park signs.The left-turn lane from U.S. 70 onto Banks School Road in Kinston remains closed as crews prepare to shift traffic from existing U.S. 70 to the new U.S. 70. In addition, the temporary traffic signal at Industrial Drive and existing U.S. 70 will be removed.The traffic shift is part of a $22.8 million contract awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro that includes paving and new signals on N.C. 148 and U.S. 70, as well as upgrading the existing signals, signs and drainage and adding a noise wall.For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit www.ncdot.gov/travel or follow NCDOT on Twitter at www.ncdot.gov/travel/twitter.
