RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded an $8.1 million contract to resurface more than 51 miles of primary and secondary roads in Cumberland and Harnett Counties.Contractor Barnhill Contracting Company of Fayetteville can start work as early as July 28 and complete the contract by May 15, 2015. The following primary roads are included in the contract:
- 3.7 miles of N.C. 210 from the Harnett County line to North Fifth Street;
- 3.3 miles of U.S. 401 Bypass from U.S. 401 to N.C. 24;
- 1.4 miles of N.C. 59 from Parkton Road to Rockfish Road; and
- 1.1 miles of U.S. 401 from East McNeill Street to McKinney Parkway.
The contract also covers 35 sections of secondary roads to be milled, widened, and improved with reconstructed shoulders. This is one of the 18 road and bridge contracts worth $248.1 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were three percent, or about $8.3 million below NCDOT estimates.
