Bridge Replacement Project Begins February 3 on Grimesland Bridge Road in Pitt County

RALEIGH - On Monday, Feb. 3, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of Grimesland Bridge Road in order for crews with S.T. Wooten Corporation to replace the bridge over Chicod Creek near Grimesland. The bridge is scheduled to reopen April 3, weather permitting.This project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The bridge, which was constructed in 1975, is classified as functionally obsolete. This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.

Motorists traveling through the area will use N.C. 33, Greenville Boulevard and U.S. 264 as the signed detour route. NCDOT encourages motorists to pay attention, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely. Motorists should use during the closure.
