The start of an N.C. Department of Transportation
bridge replacement project on Ogden School Road south of Kernersville in Forsyth County has been delayed. Work on a new bridge over Abbotts Creek was supposed to start this week, but has been rescheduled to begin Monday, December 29. When construction begins, crews will close a section of the road approximately one quarter mile from the intersection with Teague Lane. Motorists will still be able to access residences and businesses on either side of the bridge construction area, up to the points of closure. Motorists traveling through the area can use the detour route along Teague Lane, Watkins Ford Road and N.C. 66, and are advised to use caution in the area and allow additional travel time to reach their destinations safely. The new bridge is expected to completed by April 10, 2015.This project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The current bridge was built in 1958 and was deemed functionally obsolete. This bridge currently has weight restrictions posted. The new bridge will be built to current design standards and will not have similar weight restrictions. For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit www.ncdot.gov/travel or follow NCDOT on Twitter.
