Department of Transportation contractors will next week begin replacing the bridge on John Black Road over Flat Swamp Creek between Denton and Thomasville in Davidson County.Crews will close a section of John Black Road Monday, Dec. 15, approximately a half mile from the intersection with New Cut Road. Local traffic will still be able to access locations on either side of the bridge up to the point of closure at the construction site.Motorists traveling through the area can use a detour route along New Cut Road, E. Old US Hwy 64 and Old N.C. 109. They are advised to use caution in the area and allow additional travel time to reach their destinations safely.Construction should be completed and the road reopened by Friday, April 3, 2015.This project is part of the department's overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The current bridge was built 1966 and is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.
