RALEIGH -N.C. Department of Transportation contractors next month will begin replacing the bridge on Bethel-South Fork Road over Pine Hall Branch just south of Quackenbush Road in Alamance County.
On Monday, Jan. 19, crews will close the road in both directions between Quakenbush and Clark Road. Motorists will still be able to access residences and businesses on either side of the bridge construction area up to the points of closure.
Motorists traveling through the area can use the signed detour route along Quakenbush Road to Holman Mill Road to Clark Road. They are advised to use caution in the area and allow additional travel time to reach their destinations safely.
Construction should be completed and the road reopened by Friday, May 22.
This project is part of the department's statewide bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The current bridge was built in 1954 and is structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. The new bridge will be built to current design standards and will improve the approach roadway at the bridge location.
