Bridge to Be Replaced on Irvin Farm Road in Rockingham County

Raleigh -N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will begin replacing the existing bridge on Irvin Farm Road and constructing a concrete culvert under the road in Rockingham County after the new year. Beginning Monday, Jan. 5th, crews will close Irvin Farm Road in both directions west of the Vance Street Extension. Motorists will still be able to access residences and businesses on either side of the bridge construction area, up to the points of closure. Motorists traveling through the area can use the detour route along the Vance Street Extension, N.C. 65 and Sandy Cross Road and are advised to use caution in the area and allow additional travel time to reach their destinations safely.Construction should be completed and the road reopened by Friday, April 24, 2015.This project is part of the department's statewide bridge program to improve the condition of the state's bridges. The current bridge was built in 1957 and was deemed to be functionally obsolete and structurally deficient. The new bridge will be built to current design standards and will not have the weight restrictions of the current bridge.
