RALEIGH - Some roadway repair work to smooth out the transition for motorists
between a section of eastbound Timber Drive Extension and the bridge over
Mahler Creek in Garner will require the closure of a section of the eastbound side this
weekend. They will fix a rise in the pavement that has developed, making it a
safety concern for motorists whose vehicles drop down slightly as they go onto
the bridge deck.
The closure will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, with a detour in place by
8 p.m. Crews expect to be able to re-open the eastbound lanes by 7 p.m. on
Sunday. Crews will initially mill down about 150 feet of roadway, then take up
the road surface and substructure. They will rebuild the substructure before
paving on Saturday and Sunday. Once new lane markings are put in place Sunday
afternoon, the road should be ready to open.
During the closure, two signed detour routes will be in place. Drivers
going north of Timber Drive will use N.C. 50, U.S. 70 and White Oak Road to get around the closure. Heading south from Timber
Drive, the detour uses N.C. 50, New Bethel Road,
Hebron Church Road and White Oak Road.
The repair will require additional concrete work next week, but that
will only require some daytime lane closures outside of rush hour times.
The N.C. Department of Transportation
reminds motorists to watch signs for road closure and detour information, stay
alert and obey the posted speed limit.
