Fredrickson Road Permanently Closes As Construction of the Wilmington Bypass Continues

RALEIGH-The south entrance of Fredrickson Road at the intersection with Sutton Steam Plant Road in New Hanover County will be permanently closed today, April 15. This closure will allow construction crews to continue building the U.S. 17 Wilmington Bypass (I-140).

Motorists can detour by accessing the north end of Fredrickson Road from the Sutton Lake Road entrance.

The Wilmington Bypass is a four-lane divided highway on new location from U.S. 17, south of N.C. 87, in Brunswick County to I-40 in New Hanover County. Once completed, it will allow motorists the option to bypass driving through Wilmington. It is part of North Carolina's Strategic Highway Corridor Initiative, which is an effort to preserve and maximize the long-term interconnectivity of core transportation corridors in North Carolina.
