Shelby - Beginning Tuesday, March 4, the N.C. Department of Transportation will be reconstructing the County Home Road intersection at Springs Road in Catawba County. Once completed, the updated intersection will be safer and help traffic flow more smoothly.
The $325,191 project includes grading, paving, drainage, curb and gutter placement, pavement marking and installing signals. Midstate Contractors, Inc., of Hickory, was awarded a contract for the project in September 2013.
The project is scheduled for completion in early July.
During construction, County Home Road will be closed at the Springs Road intersection to about 200 feet south of that intersection. There are three private property entrances located inside that closed area which will be maintained during construction to allow owners access to those properties.
To lessen the project's impact on local traffic, there will be no lane closures on Springs Road from 7-9 a.m. and 5-6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Additionally, two detours will be in place during construction:
Motorists driving northbound on County Home Road toward Conover will take a right on Lee Cline Road, travel about one mile before turning left onto Rifle Range Road, and then travel about three miles until they reach Springs Road.
Motorists traveling northbound on County Home Road toward Hickory will turn left onto Sipe Road, travel about three-quarters of a mile before turning right onto Section House Road, and then drive about half a mile before reaching Springs Road.
When traveling near the intersection, be on the lookout for crews working in the area and pay attention to any traffic message signs.
