N.C. 42 Closed Near 70 Business in Clayton for Railroad Work - Road expected to reopen at 8 p.m.

RALEIGH - A section of N.C. 42 will be closed through the evening commute today in Clayton. Earlier today, Norfolk Southern Railroad closed the crossing on N.C. 42 at the intersection with U.S. 70 Business to perform work. The crossing is expected to reopen to traffic at 8 p.m. today. The N.C. Department of Transportation is setting up signs alerting traffic to the closure and has put a detour in place. Traffic on N.C. 42 needing to access U.S. 70 Business will be directed on to Glen Laurel Road to Powhatan Road back to U.S. 70 Business. Norfolk Southern is expected to close this crossing again in two weeks to complete their project. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays.
