RALEIGH -The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles will join the fun at Charlotte's 20th Speed Street, bringing its mobile unit to the 3rd Street Lot on Speed Street. The unit will be open for business from noon to 7 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, May 22-24.
DMV will offer opportunities for festival-goers to renew their driver license as long as no written or road test is required, and to obtain ID cards and duplicate driver licenses. Driver licenses are issued, through age 65 for eight years, and are priced at $4 per year. Drivers over 65 are issued licenses for five years.
Duplicate driver licenses to replace lost or damaged credentials or to change an address may be ordered at the mobile unit. Additionally, ID cards for children and adults can also be ordered. Both items cost $10 each. The DMV mobile unit will also provide state roadmaps and driver handbooks.
DMV urges citizens to come prepared with the necessary documents to order ID cards. Citizens applying for an ID card for the first time will need to provide proof of their full name and date of birth. They will also need to provide a Social Security card and proof of residency in North Carolina. A full list of acceptable documents is available on the official NCDMV website.
