CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $3.2 million contract to resurface 16.9 miles of primary and secondary roads in Anson County.

Contractor Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro can start as early as July 1 and complete the contract by June 20, 2015. The following primary roads are included in the contract:

2.7 miles of U.S. 52 South from south of Diggs Road to north of the Morven city limits; and

7.8 miles of N.C. 742 South from south of Robinson Bridge Road to the South Carolina state line.

The contract also covers three sections of secondary roads to be milled, widened, and improved with reconstructed shoulders.

This is one of the 12 road and bridge contracts worth $403.6 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were 2.4 percent, or just over $10 million below NCDOT estimates.
