CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $3.4 million contract to resurface more than 20 miles of primary and secondary roads in Cabarrus County.

Contractor Blythe Construction Inc. can begin work as early as July 1 and complete the contract by June 30, 2015.

The following primary roads are included in the contract:

3.1 miles of N.C. 200 from Mount Pleasant Road to the Stanly County line.

The contract also covers 11 sections of secondary roads to be milled, resurfaced and improved with reconstructed shoulders.

This is one of the 12 road and bridge contracts worth $403.6 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were 2.4 percent, or just over $10 million below NCDOT estimates.
