CHARLOTTE -The
N.C. Department of Transportation has
awarded a $5.6 million contract to resurface more than 24 miles of primary and
secondary roads in Union County.
Contractor Blythe Construction Inc. can start work as
early as July 1 and complete the contract by June 20, 2015. The following
primary roads are included in the contract:
4 miles of N.C. 207 from J.D. Helms Road to
Stack Road; and
1.3 miles of
U.S. 601 from the Jack in the Box restaurant entrance to the end of the
roadway's curb and gutter section.
The contract also covers ten sections of secondary roads
to be milled, widened, and improved with reconstructed shoulders.
This is one of the 12
road and bridge contracts worth $403.6 million recently awarded by NCDOT for
projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest
bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were
2.4 percent, or just over $10 million below NCDOT estimates.
