NCDOT Awards $8.6 Million in Contract to Construct New Route in Washington County

RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to construct a new 3.3-mile route to connect U.S. 64 to N.C. 32 in Washington County. This new route will fork with Beasley Road and continue into N.C. 32. The $8.6 million contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro.The work for this contract can start as early as July 28, with all road work completed by July 2016, and all vegetation work and reforestation work done by the end of December 2016.A detour route will be in place during a portion of this time depending on the contractor's method of performing the work, using U.S. 64 and N.C. 94 to give motorists access to residences and businesses on either end of the construction area. This was one of 18 road and bridge contracts worth $248.1 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law.
