N.C. Department of Transportation has
awarded a contract for grading, draining and paving nearly 10 miles of U.S. 21
from Oklahoma Road to Pine Swamp Road in Alleghany County.
During the project, crews
will also replace culverts over Laurel Branch and Glade Creek with
bridges.Work is expected to start on the project as early as April
Most of the work should be
finished by early October 2017, with permanent vegetation established by March

This was one of 28 contracts
worth $282.3 million recently awarded by NCDOT for highway, bridge and ferry
projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest
bidders, as required by state law. The winning bids for the projects came in
almost five percent, or $14.2 million, below NCDOT estimates.
