NCDOT Awards Contract for Iredell County Road Improvements

SHELBY-Motorists will soon notice improvements to nearly 50 miles of primary and secondary roads in Iredell County because of a contract recently awarded by theN.C. Department of Transportation.

The $6.1 million contract was awarded to Maymead, Inc. of Mountain City, Tenn. Work can begin in late September, with final completion scheduled for late October 2015.

Roads included in the contract are:

  • N.C. 901 from N.C. 115 to the Davie County line;
  • U.S. 21 from south of Flower House Loop to the end of road widening;
  • Pickwyck Drive from N.C. 152 to a dead end;
  • Alexander Acres from N.C. 150 to a dead end;
  • Foursquare Drive from N.C. 115 to a dead end;
  • Timberland Loop from Kistler Farm Road to Old Meadowbrook Lane;
  • Old Meadowbrook Road to Timberland Loop;
  • Easter Lane from Shearers Road to a dead end;
  • Villa Lane from Shearers Road to a dead end;
  • Vista Drive from Shearers Road to Villa Lane;
  • Huntington Ridge Road from Shearers Road to a dead end;
  • Beracah Road from Midway Lake to a dead end;
  • Paradise Peninsula Road from N.C. 150 to a dead end;
  • Greenbay Road from Paradise Peninsula Road to Ridge Top Road;
  • Ridge Top Road from Greenbay Road to Quiet Cove Road;
  • Quiet Cove Road from N.C. 150 to a dead end;
  • Trollingwood Lane at Quiet Cove Road;
  • Hogan Lane from Greenbay Road to a dead end;
  • Mariner Point Lane from from N.C. 150 to a dead end;
  • Mt. Bethel Road from U.S. 21 to Old Mocksville Road;
  • Church Lake Road from U.S. 21 to Old Mocksville Road;
  • Henkel Farm Road from Tabor Road to a dead end;
  • Bess Road from North Chipley Ford Road to Friendship Road;
  • Weston Road from Trinity Road to N.C. 115;
  • Bradley Farm Road from Monticello Road to Old Wilkesboro Road;
  • Butterfield Circle from N.C. 90 to a dead end;
  • Foothills Drive from N.C. 90 to a dead end;
  • Cam-A-Will Circle from N.C. 90 to a dead end;
  • Murdock Road from U.S. 21 to Amity Hill Road;
  • Mazeppa Road from east of N.C. 115 to Triplett Road;
  • Williamson Road from Sundown Road to the Interstate 77 bridge;
  • Brawley School Road from east of Talbert Road to U.S. 21; and
  • Judas Road from Perth Road to Cornelius Road.

This is one of the 12 road and bridge contracts worth $160.9 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were three percent, or about $5 million below NCDOT estimates.
