SHELBY-Lincoln County motorists will soon have a smoother drive along U.S. 321and other secondary roads in the county as part of a contract recently awarded by theN.C. Department of Transportation.
The project will resurface U.S. 321 from the bridge over U.S. 321 Business near High Shoalsto north of N.C. 27. Blythe Contruction, Inc. of Charlotte was awarded the $2,976,331 contract for the project.
The contract also includes improvements to six sections of the county's secondary roads:
Brevard Place Road from N.C.73 to the bridge overLeepers Creek;
Killian Road from Reepsville Roadto the Catawba County line;
King Wilkinson Road from Henry Dellinger Roadto Ingleside Farm Road;
Burton Lane from the edge of the GovernorsIslandroundabout to the boat landing;
South Aspen Street from U.S. 321 Business/N.C. 150 bridge to N.C. 27 at the Court Square;and
Webbs Road from N.C. 16 Busines to Burtons Lane Road.
Resurfacing will help keep the roads in good condition and repair issuessuch ascracking and potholes.
Nearly 20 miles of roadway will be resurfaced as part of this contract. Work on the project can begin as soon as Aug. 25, with final completion scheduled for late May 2015.
To help minimize impacts to the traveling public, there will be no lane closures related to this resurfacing project along U.S. 321 during the morning and evening rush hour.
This is one of the 11 road and bridge contracts worth $43.4 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were 2.8 percent, or about $1.2 million,over NCDOT estimates.
