NCDOT Awards Contract to Improve 5 Miles of I-240 in Buncombe County

SHELBY-TheN.C. Department of Transportationhas awarded a contract to improve 5.3 miles of Interstate 240 in Buncombe County from I-40/I-26 to U.S. 19/23.

The $5 million contract for pavement rehabilitation was awarded to Rogers Group, Inc. of Nashville, Tenn.

Work can begin as early asOct. 27, with completion scheduled for mid-October 2015.

To lessen the impact the projecthas on the traveling public, work requiring lane closures will be performed at night on I-240 or U.S.19/23.

This is one of the two road and bridge contracts worth $12.1 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were nearly 12 percent, or about $1.5 million below NCDOT estimates.
