CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation this week awarded two contracts totaling $5.7 million to improve more than 29 miles of primary and secondary roads in Mecklenburg County.
Crews with Ferebee Corp. and J.T. Russell and Sons Inc. can begin work as early as July 1 to mill, resurface and reconstruct shoulders on sections of the following major roadways:
0.5 miles of West W.T. Harris Boulevard between The Plaza and Grier Road;
0.4 miles of N.C. 115 (Old Statesville Road) between Hucks Road and I-485; and
6.9 miles of N.C. 51 from Independence Boulevard (U.S. 74) to Palomino Drive in Matthews and Mint Hill.
Both contracts are scheduled for completion June 19, 2015.
This is one of the 14 road and bridge contracts worth $82.5 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received on the projects were 5.5 percent, or $4.5 million, below NCDOT estimates.
