SHELBY --On Tuesday, April 22, theN.C. Department of Transportationwill begin closing sets of ramps along U.S. 321 as work continues on a $7.7 million resurfacing project in Gaston County. The ramp closures will begin at 9 a.m. each day and are expected to continue through the end of the work week, weather permitting.
On Tuesday, project contractorBlythe Construction will close the off-ramp from U.S. 321 southbound onto N.C. 279 as well as the loop ramp from N.C. 279 onto U.S. 321 southbound. This closure will remain in place for the day.
Motorists traveling near the construction on Tuesday can take theHardin Road exit to U.S. 321 Business to avoid the ramp closure.Message boards announcing the ramp closures are in place, and law enforcement officers will beat the intersection of the ramp from U.S. 321 and the intersection at N.C. 279 and U.S. 31 Businesshelping with traffic control.
Once work is complete on that set of ramps, crews will move on to the ramps atN.C. 279 and Grier Beam Blvd. This part of the project is expected to continue through the end of the week.
The U.S. 321 resurfacing project, once completed, will provide a smoother ride for motorists and will help fortify that stretch of heavily traveled road against increased traffic volume. Work on the project began in late February and is expected to be completed in July.
