WINSTON-SALEM - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will begin widening a two-lane
0.7-mile stretch of US 421/I-40 Business East in Kernersville.
On Thursday, Aug 14, at 9 a.m., workers will
close down the right
outside lane of US
421/I-40 Business East near Exit 15 at the intersection with Macy Grove Road.
This is a continuous closure and construction is slated to be complete
Thursday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
This work is part of the project to widen and
extend Macy Grove Road from Industrial Drive to Mountain Street in
Kernersville, including a new interchange at US 421/I-40 Business. The purpose
of this project is to increase the traffic capacity along the roadway, which
will ease back-ups and improve flow of critical hospital emergency traffic that
utilizes the highway. This project is the first phase of what will eventually
become the new Kernersville Loop that will tie into the future interchange with
the
Macy Grove Road
Improvements Project.
Motorist in the area are encouraged to use
I-40 East instead of US 421/I-40 Business East. Westbound US 421/I-40 Business traffic will
not be affected.
