GREENSBORO- On Monday, Sept. 15,N.C. Department of Transportationcontractors will begin replacing the bridge over Grays Branch creek on Underwood Road just outside of Yanceyville.
At 8 a.m., crews will close a section of Underwood Road in both directions as they begin tearing down the existing bridge. The new bridge is expected to be complete by Wednesday, Dec. 25.
Local traffic will be able to access homes and businesses from either end of Underwood Road but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of the bridge. Motorists traveling through the area will use theposted detour route
along Kerr Chapel Road, Pagetown Road, Cherry Grove Road, and Boone Road.
NCDOT encourages motorists to pay attention, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
This project is part of the department's overallbridge program
to improve the condition of the state's bridges. Built in 1956, the existing bridge is reaching the end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands.
