RALEIGH - N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews throughout the eastern part of the state are out on the roads responding to the icy conditions remaining from the winter weather that hit the region yesterday.
Temperatures remained above freezing last night, allowing crews in Division Two, which includes Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Pamlico and Pitt counties were able to clear all bare pavement routes. Icy spots do remain on secondary roads in the northern areas of Pitt, Greene and Lenoir counties. Crews will complete all snow and ice removal operations today and have used approximately 4,000 tons of salt throughout this storm.
DivisionTwo is sending 14 snowplow/spreader trucks, 2 mechanic service trucks and a total of 18 crew members to assist DivisionFive, which includes Durham, Franklin, Granville, Person, Vance, Warren and Wake counties,in their snow and ice removal efforts.
