Shelby -Rain has already started falling in parts of North
Carolina's eastern mountains region, and N.C.
Department of Transportation crews are prepared should that rain turn into
snow.
The National
Weather Service is forecasting little-to-no accumulation for NCDOT's Division
11, which includes Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Caldwell, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and
Yadkin counties. Any precipitation expected for Division 11 should be light and
will likely start as rain, so there are no plans for brine applications.
Precipitation
in the division's mountain counties, however, will likely turn from rain to
snow. NCDOT crews are prepared if the forecast changes and significant
accumulation develops.
Division 11
had snow removal operations this weekend in Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties,
but Sunday's warm temperatures helped to melt some ice and snow along roads.
The division's non-mountain county crews will be on standby in case they are
needed for snow or ice removal later tonight.
Travelers
are asked NOT to call 911 or the State Highway Patrol for road conditions. The
lines must remain clear for emergency calls.
