Shelby -Additional snow fell this morning in Asheville and the surrounding counties, butN.C. Department of Transportationcrews continue making progress on clearing primary routes throughout the region.
On Wednesday, 8-15 inches of snow blanketed Division 13, which includesBuncombe, Burke, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Rutherford and Yancey counties. Crews worked overnight to clear interstates in the division and will continue to monitor those conditions as additional snow falls today.
NCDOT crews will again work overnight tonight to clear snow and ice from roads, and they hope to begin work on most secondary roads by nightfall. Icy patches will remain on roads as temperatures stay below freezing. Although Division 13 has reported few issues with debris, be on the look out for fallen tree limbs and power lines.
Motorists are still strongly encouraged to stay off the roads, if possible.
