CHARLOTTE - Colder temperatures and forecasted snow are keeping N.C. Department of Transportation crews busy checking equipment and preparing to stage trucks across the area later today. In Mecklenburg County, NCDOT will have more than 30 trucks and 63 contract trucks positioned to remove any accumulating snow from the roadways. Engineers plan to begin mobilizing between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Yesterday, NCDOT worked to treat roads, bridges and overpasses with salt brine in advance of the storm. Warm temperatures and constant traffic have helped dry the brine, forming a bond on the pavement to prevent any initial precipitation from freezing to the surface.
Engineers will continue to monitor the forecast and modify treatment plans and schedules as needed.
