NCDOT Implementing Rolling Road Blocks on I-77 in Yadkin County Next Week for Power Line Installation

SHELBY --On Monday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m.,theN.C. Department of Transportationwill implement rolling road blocks to slow traffic while utility work is underwayon I-77 in Yadkin Countynorth of U.S. 421.

A utility company will be stringing high-tension power lines across I-77.NCDOT will begin staging traffic from mile marker 68 to mile marker 79 on I-77 in both directions and installing rolling roadblocks. Staging traffic is a way to slow down motorists while the utility work is completed.

Once one utility line is in place, traffic will begin moving. Then, crews will advancethe roadblock,halt traffic againandbegin on the next line. Four utility lines need to be strung.

To help control traffic coming onto I-77, ramps to I-77 North will be closed at U.S. 421. A signed detour using U.S. 21 and U.S. 421 will direct motorists back to I-77. The exit ramp from the rest area at mile marker 72 on I-77 Northboundwill also be closed.

The traffic control measures are expected to be in place until Monday at 3 p.m.
