With new bridge opening, Idlewild Road will close to traffic
CHARLOTTE -After delays from Mother Nature, the N.C. Department of Transportation has rescheduled a traffic shift on the Independence Boulevard widening project in east Charlotte. Beginning at midnight Sunday, Sept. 21, crews will open a new bridge taking Conference Drive over U.S. 74. This is one of three bridges under construction between Albemarle Road and Wallace Lane.
Once the Conference Drive bridge is open, the contractor will continue construction on a new bridge taking Idlewild Road over Independence Boulevard. This work will require closing Idlewild Road between Monroe Road and Electra Lane. Motorists will be detoured around the area along Monroe Road and Conference Drive through October 2016.
