CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close the entrance ramp from N.C. 73 to I-85 North in Concord from 9 p.m. Friday, March 7 until 6 a.m. Monday, March 10, weather permitting. The closure is part of the $125.2 million I-85 widening project, expanding I-85 from four to eight lanes from south of Bruton Smith Boulevard (Exit 49) to north of N.C. 73 (Exit 55).
During the closure, crews will complete shifting northbound traffic on I-85 to two outside lanes, and the two inside lanes will be resurfaced using a process called diamond grinding. This method will offer motorists a smoother, quieter ride, and will help drain moisture from the road surface more efficiently.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
