NCDOT Working to Improve Train Travel in North Carolina

RALEIGH -The Piedmont Improvement Program -a $520 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-funded project to improve the rail corridor between Raleigh and Charlotte -is one way the N.C. Department of Transportation is working to better the economies of communities across the state, as highlighted in a new video.

In the video, Salisbury Mayor Pro-Tem Maggie Blackwell explains how the program will benefit her town as one of the communities along the corridor.

Key facets of the project include safety improvements, the addition of miles of second track to allow freight and passenger trains to pass one another, and the construction of the Raleigh Union Station.

Watch the video to learn more about what the Piedmont Improvement Program entails, and how it will make train travel better than ever for passengers, industry and communities in North Carolina.
