CHARLOTTE The N.C. Department of Transportation is extending a closure on Beatties Ford Road over Richardson Creek in Charlotte through Nov. 9, weather permitting. The department closed the bridge site June 20 and originally scheduled to open the road Sept. 18.
During construction, crews were to relocate a waterline that, on design plans, was in conflict with replacing a culvert for the existing bridge. Once work got further along, the waterline was found not to be in conflict, so the relocation was no longer required.
Attention then shifted to relocating a sewer line in a conflicting location, but a utility pole first had to be moved before that could occur. This issue resulted in work being delayed. In addition, the contractor was notified of improper erosion control and other measures needed to minimize environmental impacts. These two instances further delayed the project five weeks while the issues were being resolved.
A detour remains in place along Beatties Ford Road, Sunset Road, Reames Road and Lakeview Road.
