NCDOT is Preparing To Shift Traffic To New Conference Drive Bridge in Mecklenburg County

New structure is part of Independence Boulevard widening project

CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation is approaching a milestone on the Independence Boulevard widening project in east Charlotte as crews prepare to open a new bridge taking Conference Drive over U.S. 74. NCDOT plans to shift traffic to the new bridge as early as Friday night, Sept 12, weather permitting. This is one of three bridges under construction between Albemarle Road and Wallace Lane.

Once the Conference Drive bridge is open, the contractor will continue construction on a new bridge taking Idlewild Road over Independence Boulevard. This work will require detouring traffic around the area along Monroe Road and Conference Drive through October 2016.

For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit the NCDOT traffic website or follow NCDOT on Twitter. Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website. To access it, type "m.ncdot.gov" into the browser of your smartphone. Then, bookmark it to save for future reference.

For more information on this project, please contact the assistant resident engineer at (704) 845-1151. Project details are also online at the "U.S. 74 Widening and Improvements" project page.
