SHELBY -The N.C.
Department of Transportation will begin replacing a bridge over Plott Creek
in Haywood County on Monday, April 7, and a detour will be in place throughout
the duration of the construction.
The $251,425 project includes
grading, paving, drainage, installing signage and replacing the existing
structure with a new bridge. Green Valley Road will be closed for about four
months while crews complete the bridge replacement.
The existing bridge on Green
Valley Road was built in 1960 and is considered functionally obsolete and
structurally deficient. Although the bridge is safe, it was built to design
standards no longer in use and requires costly maintenance to remain
functional.
A detour will be in place
during construction for motorists traveling through the area. The detour will
run from Green Valley Road to Plott Creek Road, and then to U.S. 74. From
there, motorists will follow Hyatt Creek Road back to Green Valley Road.
R. E. Burns & Sons Co.,
Inc. is the project contractor.
